No.

Maybe a v6 Mustang.

A stock c3 runs mid 15's in the 1/4.

No you would not have a chance with a stock L48 set up. You must remember newer cars are better engineered and have better fuel delivery systems, in higher compression engines (in some cases), and many other features that a stock late 70's vette cannot compete against unless you make mods to your vehicle. Mid -late 60's, 70-71 vettes, (big blocks, have a fighting chance).

I think the mail truck can beat an L-48. It was just how it was in the late 70s.......

Sad, but true, the L48 isn't much on performance. Heck, my >100,000 mile DD ('96 STS Northstar) will outrun many a Corvette, but I usually refrain from doing so as I'd rather save punching it for stompin' 'stangs.

Beat at doing what? Maintenance costs, the corvette will be higher...is a higher number the winner or the loser...

Gas mileage...the mustang has a higher number, so now its a draw no matter what way you look at it.

If you are talking about racing on the street, the Corvette will be able to plow through a larger number of people due to the low nose, and will survive more impacts then the mustang...here is where the F-body will come close to if not better then the Corvette...if it is a 3rd gen F-body, the low nose, and steeply raked windshield will send people flying much farther then the Corvette.

Back in 78, my son raced his Big Wheel against a Vette. Almost beat him, but he had to stop cause it was his nap time!!

BUT.... this can be fixed with a little work.. a little money and a little time.... ok.... maybe a lot of money, and a lot of work and a lot of time.... BUT... it can be done....

I have a 79, and there is not a stock mustang, vett (less the ZR1 maybe) or much of anything else that can touch her.

kill list includes, C6 zo6, Roush 427 mustang, Bmw Z8, Lotus, several Ferraris, and the list goes on....

Build it and they will come..

78 Vette and a 78 Stang?
Or 78 Vette and newer Stang?
Stock or modified?
Road course or strip?

Who are you betting or trying to best?

Wake-up....wake-up. Your having a delusional dream of some sort!
Wait, maybe a 77 Mustang....remember those POS's!
Not a Mustang fan, but you'll need to drop $5k or so into the motor to make that happen.

Damn made me shoot some water out of my nose.

If you want to race pull that l48 out and stroke it . My 79 had a stock l82 with 190hp . I have about 470hp now but Im also $10k deep into my motor and trans also need a new rear end now. Good luck

I had a '76 mustang. It came with a 129HP 302 v8
The late 70's were a dark time for sports cars.
