Default wiper park issue

On my 69, the wipers turn on and operate correctly, but don't quite make it down to the full park position when I turn them off. I can give them a little push and they slide to the regular park spot and the door can close. I've got the linkage adjusted such that they are as low as they can be. I'm wondering if there is too much play in the linkage or something. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Y94,
It sounds to me like the 'depressed wiper' function in your wiper motor isn't working. There's a relay in the gear box section of the motor that controls the park function.
Do you have the Chassis Service Manual?. In my 71 Manual it's discussed in Section 12-39.
Regards,
Alan

Yellow:

It sounds as if your park switch is working fine and that you have an adjustment problem. . .

Alan, no offense intended . . . posting something that is different from your post is like kicking my dog! I have the utmost respect for you and your opinion but in this case I think he has a different problem . . .

It sounds as if the arms are parking and if this is the case the park switch in the motor is working properly and this only leaves a few things it could be. Adjustment or slop in the linkage.

I have an adjustment page on my web site that tells you how to adjust the arms the factory way. You might check this out. . and pay attention to the function of the screw A in number 7.

When you cycle your arms where are they hitting on the outer edge of the molding. They should only be 3/4" from the outside edge of then windshield and this adjustment comes from screw A in the instruction sheet.

Also make sure the drivers blade is sitting all the way down so when the passenger comes in on top it has room to go down.Sometimes moving the drivers blade adjustment so it doesn't swing as close to the pillar post will force it down a little farther. After market bulky blades can also be a problem. Also the angle of the drivers blade is important.

It is a brand new motor and it seems to be working properly. I adjusted the linkage at the motor to have both arms be as low as possible at first. I didn't realize there was a screw A that I could mess with! So does this screw just adjust the angle of the wiper relative to the arm?

I'll give it a shot tonight. Thanks for the advice!

im having the exact same problem right now. When i put the wiper linkage back in after removing it to paint the engine bay, it doesnt seemt o want to go down far enough. The odd part is, the wipers were down lower before i took out the linkage... I feel your pain

Yes. . . .It’s the mysterious Screw A. . . .

I get so many emails about this screw it deserves a definition on Wikipedia! Most people don’t know it’s there and/or what it is for.

I think this just might cure your problem.

Go to the same link, and if your car is a different year we have it for most cars 68-82 on the site.

I have a similar problem with my '74. The wipers hit the cowl on their way back down in the park position and I have to push them down by hand. Linkage adjustment issue?

The tips go past the windshield edge and over the chrome. I looked for screw A and there was nothing or at least nothing I could see with it all assembled and the door on. I'm wondering if I was given wipers to a different year. I'm also pretty sure I've got them installed on the correct side since the wiper blade is parallel to the vertical part of the windshield at full travel. Seems like they'd be way off if that were the case.

Loosen the 2 nuts on each arm at the motor and adjust them so they dont hit the chrome.

I've got it adjusted as low as it can go at the motor.

Yellow:

Screw A should allow you to bring the tips of the blades inward. Have you tried this yet?

Oh wait, you mean the screw A that's only located on the passenger side and not the drivers side which *may* have been the only one I was looking on. Ooops! Yeah, that screw works pretty good. The drivers side wiper and I came to an understanding and it works like a champ now. Thanks Willcox and everyone.

There you go! That screw is one of the most over looked screws on a Corvette.

Default Screw A

Can someone please post a picture of the illusive "SCREW A" I've looked and I can't find it. I'm having the same problem on 1970.

Thank you!
