Default ZZ4 INSTALLATION

Been a long time since i have been on here, but i have a few questions concerning zz4 engine installation. I am considering buying a zz4 from scoggin-dickey to replace my current engine in my 76 vette and i would like to see some pictures of the engine if anyone has any and if there is any problem with installation of this particular engine. Any and all info is surely appreciated.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

Same thing. Valves fastners are in the center of the covers, but it's basically the same beast with alot of HP.

Maybe I'm missing something here! What is the advantage of a ZZ4 with approximately 375 HP and 400 lbs. of torque compared to a 383 Stroker with 450 HP and 496 lbs. of torque. The price is very similar, complete and neither engine is stock! So, what am I missing here? Why would I want a ZZ4 over the Stroker?

The ZZ4 comes with a long waterpump and a flywheel installed. You will need to switch to a short waterpump and you will need to grind down some of the flashing on the back of the pump to allow it to clear the timing chain cover. If you are running with a Muncie you will need to order a new Flywheel due to the one piece rear main on the ZZ4. Everything else should match up but you might consider headers and a new carb to help the motor breathe!

Kloppy??? Where are you getting a complete new stroker pushing those kinds of numbers for around 3.2k????? I'd say thats a pretty good deal!

As Mike69 said, long style water pump and automatic tranny flexplate installed need a manual tranny flywheel if using 4/5/6 speed. Call Salle Chevrolet http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com as they can tailor the engine to your application...in this case a Corvette. The also have many different variations of the ZZ4 that they make in their race shop. I got my engine from a local Chevy dealership in Austin. Saved me almost $300 in shipping. Great engine!!!!!!!!!

Just LOVE my ZZ4 ;) Why does GM put the long shaft water pumps on, when everybody has to switch to the short shaft  What can anyone install this engine in "as is", water pump wise? Inquiring minds want to know :yesnod:...well, THIS one does, anyway!

Mike:
I never said I could get a Stroker for around $3200. It is my understanding after you get the water pump, fuel pump, carberator, etc. for the ZZ4, you have around $5000 to $5500 wrapped up in one.
As to the Stroker, these numbers are from the Engine Factory.Com. Their turn key engine, dyno tested and ready to run from the crate is $5299 with free shipping. The numbers that I recently got was 451 HP and 496 lbs. of torque. The thing that interest me is the fact that it is an engine that is ready to rock and roll, as I am a novice mechanic, without having to chase parts and hope that I have the right combinations two or three weeks, or more down the road. With this engine, I can get it one day and have it in the next. All I was saying is why would I want a ZZ4 whose numbers are about a 100 on the low side of each HP and Torque over the Stroker for about the same price complete?

I see what you ate saying...Well the ZZ4 does come complete. It's just not set up for our cars. It comes with everything from intake to dist to waterpump. If you were dropping into a Chevelle you would bolt on your carb and headders and go. But some changes are necessary for our cars.

I see your point though...The While your at it's can get you up there in price, of course you'll get alot of them doing the stroker too. Matter of taste I guess. :yesnod:

I did however do mine complete for less than 5k. (not much mind you)

When I installed my ZZ4 I didn't have to change much. The water pump did fit. Same carb, headers and fuel pump from the departing engine. $3350 and free shipping and no tax. :D I did not really have to get anything else for it to run. Everthing I did purchase was for personal preference only.

good luck :yesnod:
