I'm replacing my '68 old style TA shims with slotted ones. Anyone have a photo showing the slotted shims installed? How do they keep from falling out? Thx.
They really only go in 1 way, and then there is a long carter pin that goes through the whole mess to keep them from moving. You may have to drill a 1/8"?? hole through your trailing arm pocket if it's not already there.

Cotter pin hole? Hope that is not something I was supposed to do before I installed the new trailing arms. I'll take a look at it tomorrow. Thanks.
You should still be able to drill the holes. You might have to put the car on jackstands and then jack up the trailing arms. The slotted end of the shims slide onto the trailing arm bolt and the shim drops down against the lower part of the trailing arm pocket. You drill a hole that will allow a long cotter pin to go through the holes in the shims to keep them from falling out. I'd use a 3/16" hole rather than a 1/8" to make sure the cotter pin will fit. You can buy long drill bits that should reach both sides of the pocket in one shot. The holes in the shims are pretty large so you don't have to be surgically precise.
