Why are interior parts especially door panels are so expensive? It seems that the "newer" the vehicle, the more expensive the part. One would think that mechanical parts would cost more. Why is this so?
I would imagine it's pretty expensive to make a mold to press out the door panel.
The repro interior parts are expensive and in my experience they almost always look really beautiful as you pull them out of the box. But this joy is only lasting to the point in time where you try to install them. Almost always they don't fit. Sometimes you can get them install to where they look good, and sometimes not.
Actually though, the repro door panels for the 70 do look really good and they did fit. Not so with a lot of the other stuff.
It was explained to me that appearance (cosmetic) parts are more expensive because there is more individual/human labor involved in making each part.
