Default General C3 price question?

Hey guys,

I know that this is a very vague question but in general at least lately what would an average price be for a '79 vette - t-tops - 50,000 miles go for?
I know that is vague but there must be a range that i can start with. Say that this 79 is in decent shape, some mods i am sure and paint is ok.

any ideas?

I agree, I think of $8K as a sort of starting point. I would go up for documented low miles that I can believe and/or excellent condition. If someone is thinking they can get more than $12K, they are either dreaming or they have more or less a trailer queen. I would not be interested in dealing with a dreamer, nor would I want a trailer queen. Of course, I wouldn't hesitate to go down from $8K for poor condition or needed repairs.

I paid considerably less than the $7500 - $8k starting points everyone is talking about. But I did replace the interior, carpet, seats, stereo, front end, ball joints, tie-rod ends, bushings, etc., u-joints, differential bushings, shocks, top half of the motor, radiator, alternator (twice), cam, lifters, timing chain, balancer, rebuilt carb, brakes, rotors, wheel bearings, tires, some calipers, pads, belts, restored T-Tops and paint, entire exhaust and mufflers, clock, oil pressure gauge, dash lights/lighting, and numerous other things over the last 3 years.

I've still got the rear struts, mono-spring, power steering on the mechanical side to deal with. FYI, these are ALL things you can expect to go wrong and need replacing over time. You're going to discover a lot of things that will just go periodically. Its fun, expensive, but fun, and a great way to stay handy, learn, or just SPEND MONEY!!!

Last thing is paint. I would say for what you describe and in my experience (cause there are a lot of hidden things that need attention over time) start at $6-$12k depending on body/paint. Better the body/paint, higher the price as that's the most expensive part of the resto. I've probably got $4k into mine over that 3 year period. Oh, and I drive it most every day.

I should ad for reference mine is a 79 L48 that had 84k original miles on it. Was "ok" mechanically, and looks "ok" at about 15' to 25' depending on how clean it is, and how good your eyes are. First thing I did when I bought it was get a fresh set of rubber. Everything else I've replaced because I absolutely had to, or wanted to. I've got a list of WANTS and NEEDS. The needs come first, obviously. Something crucial breaks, I replace it. In between I fix other things. Interior was the second thing I did FYI.

Good luck, and if you get it, have fun. They are addictive.

Given that all '79 Vettes have T-tops that isn't a selling point. Now if it has both tops that should get a couple hundred more.
More importantly would be the options available in that year: such as engine option, tranny type, suspension type, interior, color combination and in some way your area as well.

The 79 is unique in that the most vettes ever made in the C3 era were made then.

But, no matter how good the paint and interior is the car isn't worth beans if the frame is a rust bucket or shows signs of neglect.

Average car should be about: $8100 depending on above criteria.
