I'm replacing (most of) the engine in my signature with the following:
- 409 SBC 10.3:1 CR
- 215cc Dart Pro I's - mild port, off the old engine
- Edelbrock Performer RPM, off the old engine
- C950, off the old engine
- CC XR280R solid roller cam - No, I don't mind adjusting lifters
I'm also thinking of getting more porting done on the heads.
How well matched is this setup?
How well do you think the power brakes & headlights will work?
I don't see you having any problems with brakes or headlights.
XR280R tight lash .016/.018, 242/248 .050, 2500 to 6500 ( based on a 350 ) 409 will bring the operating range down some. you have a 3000 stall not much for gearing. Should be nice torque in a 409 to help highway gearing 3 speed trans.

Seems like the Performer RPM is your weak point. How do the ports line up with those Dart 215's? Everything else seems like a good match. I was going to do this with my tripower but it was expensive becase of the three carb mount points. http://www.gethoned.com/process.html
Thanks for the replies. Not looking for super-high revs, but would like to make power to ~6500rpm. Camshaft decision isn't final yet. My engine builder is working with a Comp Cams design engineer (as opposed to tech guys that answer the phones & emails) I'll look into port-matchnig the intake & heads. The extrude honing process looks pretty cool. I'm always interested in new/different manufacturing processes.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Port match intake to heads, XR286R is in my 427ci, great cam, here's a video of my previous 406ci with the XR280R @ 6500RPM making 550HP crank up the volume
I have a brand new XR286R still in the box with all papers and cam card I would take $200 for if you are interested. It is the small base circle cam so you can run long rods in that 409 with it.
I was going to use it in my 406 but decided to do a custom grind.

Thanks for the offer, but I finally decided on a custom grind that takes into account the different driving conditions for the car.
