when I replace my timing chain, the water pump will be replaced too. Is there any benifit to using new vs remanufactured on a stock replacement? Also the parts store asked if I needed the one with the 'raised boss for upper heater outlet'. Neither of us have any idea what they are talking about.
that picture by dustup sure is interesting. i did know about the different shaft sizes between corvette and non corvette pumps and thats exactly the reason i went to a non-corvette weiind water pump cause it made it a hell of a lot easier to buy nice chrome pulleys that all match my other pulleys. specific corvette pulleys are a rip-off. now the .18'' difference from back of pump to the face of pump i did not know about but to be honest my belts all line up perfect and cant see the difference so maybe its not that significant.
just an extra thought why everything might line up now is because once i changed to a non corvette pump i swapped out all my pulleys so maybe that original bottom corvette crank pulley is only compatable with the corvette water pump pulley too.either way im glad im away from the corvette specific pump and pulleys now.

yep,
just like the website says, however when i got to looking at mine during my cam swap the whole water pump issue came up.
i got a 3/4 pump because all of the parts house websites say that a 72 vette is supposed to get a 3/4 but when i matched the new to the old the old was a 5/8.
not being the original owner of a car is fun sometimes
i use a stewart water pump on my 350. i switched because where i live it can stay above 100 for most of the summer. with the stewart, an electric fan (two speed lincoln fan), and a slightly larger crank pulley i can sit in traffic with the a/c blasting on the hottest days without any hint of overheating.
i just used the basic stewart pump with their thermostat.

ok i get you now baxsom and im hearing you with finding out about things that have changed over the years.
O K you guys, I've been saving a new Alumin. pump on the shelf, for the next time. LOL I bought this pump from one of the forum members... I just did the math, and it is the wrong pump. So give me a hint, what does it fit, Thanks. Gene
Water pumps on these cars are easy to replace and not that expensive. So you have a choice new - rebuilt. I prefer new.
If you have the original water pump you should hang on to it for future restoration purposes.
Having said that, I installed a Weiland High Volume water pump on my 1974 driver in 1996. The car has 140,000 ADDITIONAL miles since the install and the pump still works fine.
I went to the high volume pump and a large four-core radiator to help with cooling issues.
The Weiland was a bit cheaper back in 1996, but I guess it's all relative.
