Default Front Runners (tires/wheels)

Can someone tell me if a 15"x4.5" rim with 1.5" BS will sit nicely on a 68? Tire size is a 165R15 86T... I just want to be sure they dont stick out or in to much.. I'm currently using 1/2" spacers to clear the calipers but I think these may allow me to elliminate them....

Edit: After looking up the tire size I believe they are only 24" tall so I'm also conerned about them being to small in diameter and not looking good on the front.... I can get a pretty good deal on the combo, hence the reason I'm asking..

Thanks!!

If you plan to drive on the street, I wouldn't go any narrower than 6" wide. I have 7" wide Convos on the front of my car - I have put 6" Convos on and they look good too.

I just cant seem to find the combo I want.. Right now I have the 275/60's in back and want something wider but if I move up to the 295/50's, they are 1.5" shorter.. Ideally I would like to stick with the 28" tall tires in back because I like the way they fill the wheel wells but would like something thats about the same width as the 295/50's.. Right now, the only thing I can find are the Michkey Thompson Sportmans..

Are you ready to give up your Convo's yet?

The 165 is too short for the vette. You need a 28" tire up front. I have 3.5 centerline on the front of my 80 with a 1/2 inch spacer. The front didnt settle all the way down yet. This is a M/T ET front runner 27.5 x 4.5 and the rim is a 1 1/2 back space. Hope this helps.

Not yet. . . Work on the car has stalled. . .

As long as you plan on driving on the street, you probably shouldn't plan on achieving a true "front runner" look like L79Racers (IMO of course). I have 225/70s on mine - they actually look pretty narrow on a 6" wide rim. I also tried out 215/70s on the 6" wide rim and the width was good, but they sidewall was a little short (I think 26.79"). Good luck.

Ok L79racer, can you tell me about the rear tires/wheels? From the picture, it seems you were able to stuff some nice meat under the whells and without sticking out.. What size tire/wheel/offset you got there and did you have to modify anything like the traling arms? I would venture to say they are 295/50-15's?

The rear tires are 29x11.5 Hoosier quick time pros. They are rubbing on the trailing arms. If you have offset trailing arms they will fit without rubbing. The rims are 8.5 with a 4 7/8 back space and I have a 3/16 spacer on it so the tire would roll. You would also have to grind the corner of the spring for clearance. I was just trying to see how a 29 inch tire looks on the car. A 29" tire fills the wheel wells nice. I have since remove the IRS and am in the process of installing a 12 bolt with the auto fab 4 link. I think the M/T 295/65 15 drag radial would work well on our vettes. I think the 50 series tire might be too wide.

A 295/65-15 DR would be nice - I have thought about running this tire at some point. Maybe even a 315/60. As I have posted before, a lot of work (short of the 4 link) is going into my rear end to try and stuff a fairly large tire inside the wheel wells. IMO - the 295/50 is not a great looking tire.

I agree, the 295/50 is to short but I do like the width, hence the reason I may look into something 28" tall.. They do make a 28" tall tire with the same width as a 295/50 but its in a 16" wheel size (295/50-16)..
BGF also makes a 29.5" tall tire with 11.5" thread width (285/60-16)

The 285/60-16 is the tire in the pictures that I think you have seen in my work in progress.
