while troubleshooting a different problem , I looked into the battery compartment
area and notice while corrosion on the cable. The corrosion is on the negative battery cable
but NOT at the end that touches the battery.
It is on the end that goes through the bottom of the compartment ....
Check to see if the insulation where it goes through the body is not cracked. If the insulation is cracked it will expose the wires to the enviroment and will cause corrosion.

Pete, Push rubber gromet that surrounds cables in batt. compartment and check there. I recently changed both cables on my 80 L-82. Both batt. end were broken. Got the cables from usual vette catalogs. The neg. cable is real easy.....the pos. cable is a little more involved. However, not hard. The hardest part is getting to the cable mounts that hold pos. cable secure in the drive shaft tunnel. Jack vette us to a reasonable hight . Mak sure it's REAL secure before you go under her!! Floor jacks, blocks ext.
Good Luck, L8TER, Paul.
