Default head ????

I'm about to buy a set of heads for my 75 within the next couple of weeks and the heads that i have been kind eying up are the brodix ik 180 or the 200's. here are some of my specs a rpm intake, hot cam,750 Holley,headers,2.5 duels with magnaflows 400 tranny and 3:73 gears don't know compression ratio of the motor but it is a 90 z28 roller block the question i have is witch one of these heads would soot me best the 180's or 200's??? thanks for any input

If you don't know where you're going , any road will get you there. You have stated no goals for the car, and as far as soot goes, both those heads will put out plenty of soot with a poorly tuned carb. You need to figure out performance goals, and put together a package that achieves those goals. Match your cam, heads, intake and carb to your performance goals. Changing only one of those components won't necessarily improve performance unless the other components are well matched. do your homework. Figure out what your Z28 roller components are. If you want to throw darts, go to the local pub. If you want to build a hot motor determine what you have and where you want to go. Figure out your budget too. That always has an effect on performance.

I would just submit your question to Brodix and let them recommend one. Although you may find somebody here with a similar setup and get an idea of the power level they net which is why you are asking here.
You may want to edit your post though and address some of those questions already asked so those with the most experience can lend you an opinion.

i really did not think i was throwing darts i have all the components except the heads my only concern is if i would be leaving anything on the table with 180's because these two heads are very close in price!! and my goals are to have a fun weekend cruiser that i can take to the strip and not be embarrassed!

i dont know from experience, but all the performance books always say the bigger heads work on larger displacement higher revving small blocks. the smaller ones keep the intake velocity moving faster at lower rpms and would probably give u a better power band for a cruiser. im looking at the edelbrock perfomer heads with a 170cc intake port for my 350.

on a 350 with a hydraulic cam I would use the 180's. You have a sub 6000 RPM street setup.

geez mrvette everyone seems to have come down on you pretty hard there. i guess you do need a few more specs on the motor that they will be marrying and also what pistons, flat tops, single or double relief etc etc but if your going to stick to the hot cam the 180,s will give you more torque down low but with 3.73 i think you will have more then enough launch. now should you ever want to go a bigger cam it would be nice to have the bigger flow numbers there and heads is one thing you dont want to skimp on. have you looked at AFR,s , Gm fastburns as well?

Call Brodix for their recommendation. As for my thoughts I would go with the 180's if it is a 350. Going larger will result in low port velocity and compromise performance if you are building a street engine. This is again a situation that bigger is not always better.

Seems '90 Z could have either small bore 305 5.0L or a 350 5.7L ... look it up.

FYI, small bore often cannot use large-valve performance heads because valve(s) often hit wall(s) of cylinder ... look it up.

FYI, IK200 has a very large intake port opening & brodix specifies felpro 1206 for it ... look it up.

Me thinks I get 71's drift. If so, I completely agree both letter & spirit.

Me thinks 76 has left plenty of homework undone.

I wouldn't make any investments until you know this.

A 180-195cc head would be my recommendation unless you're going with a significantly bigger cam at the same time.

As Jackson states above the 200's have large intake ports, so a dual plane intake like the Performer will not fit. I've been there, trust me they don't fit. Also finding a dual plane intake to fit 200's and still fit under the hood is pretty difficult, I couldn't find one. I have the 180's on mine and am real happy with them. I have a Weiand intake but the Performer will fit them just fine.
Just compare the intake gaskets to see if they'll fit as Jackson recommended.
