Default E Brake Help

Can you replace the E-Brake shoes without taking the axle apart? Is there a "how-to" somewhere?
I took my rear rotors off and the the shoes are just about gone leaving the only the rivets showing.

Yes but its not fun if you have never done it before. Spedaleden said in another thread he has an easy way to do it maybe he will chime in and share.

I just took off the emergency brake shoes and put them back on. Don't ask why!!!!!

Here is the easiest way I found to take them off and replace them. I figured this out after 3 hours of waisted time.

Remove rotor and mark rotor to spindle
Remove adjusting shoe assembly at bottom of shoes it has that star wheel for adjusting shoes
Remove lower adjusting shoe spring
Pull forward shoe towards front of car and remove spring and cup pin can be pulled out on forward shoe and do the same for the rear shoe.
Pull shoes apart around anchor pin and remove (Upper spring is still attached to shoes) Make sure you align upper spring the same way on new shoes

Reinstalling shoes
Clean everything with brake cleaner
Attach upper spring to shoes and pull shoes apart to place over anchor pin. Don't worry about aligning shoes to actuating lever just get them in so they move freely
Start with rear shoe first, the pin cannot be reached from behind because bearing housing, so the spring and cup need to be algined and locked in. I did this with needle nose pliers and small screwdriver (straight blade) I did not go through the hole in the spindle. I accessed between the spindle and shoe. this was the easier of the tw spring and cups. Be patient you will get it.
Do the same for the front shoe, you can hold the back of the pin, so it make it easier to get the spring and cup to lock. Once the springs and cups are seated it easy from here.
Now align the upper part of the shoes to the actuating lever and anchor pin and again upper spring is installed.
Now install adjusting shoe spring (lower)
Now install adjusting shoe assembly by pulling bottom of shoes apart. I aligned on end and pry other shoe apart to get back end of assmebly in place.
Now grease all points that shoes touch backing plate and anchor pin and place brake clean on clean cloth and wipe shoes clean
Reinstall rotor and align hole in rotor to see adjusting screw (6 o clock position) take a small straight blade and adjust tension by moving your hand away from the floor (Upward) on both left and right sides. You should hear the pad touching rotor while spinning.

Reinstall Caliper and wheel

If you have additional question just PM me
