I took it in to an A/C shop for the fix. They used a 3 prong barb with some kind of sealant applied , pushed it in on both ends after cutting off the broken rubber hose portion to make the connection and applied small heater hose clamps to hold it in place. Vaced it for 10 minutes and recharged it. Sound like a correct repair? Will it hold?
I screwed up the other day after a radiator repair and didn't see the A/C hose was close enough to rub against the a/c compressor belt . Wore a hole right through the side of the hose.
After market A/C from Hot Rod air BTW.
Yes, that's a normal way to do it.
The factory A/C hose failed on my 77 when it was fairly new. I had already modified for more power & did not necessarily turn A/C off at high rpm.
An A/C shop replaced both hoses using the barbed connectors.
A few years ago I changed to ND compressor similar to Sanden & replaced hoses still using barbed connectors.
What kind of clamps? AC hoses use a special kind of barbed fittings, and a special clamp. Done right, the clamp requires a hydraulic crimper. Worm clamps are NOT ok.
