Default Unfortunate failure after installing new water pump

Installed a "new" waterpump today because the old one was OLD and was making some bearing noise.

Install complete, started engine and was amazed how quiet is was now , COOL!

1 minute later the new pump started screaming bearing noise. Loosened all belts, tried again and again but its bad.

What could have happened?

If you bought a replacement at any of the major retailers like Autozone chances are that the part is Chinese. Not all of the Chinese stuff is crap but at least some of it is.

When ever I buy a part the first question is who is the manufacture. If its a name I don't know, or a name that is associated with cheap quality, I move on.

Who made the pump?

Take it back and ask for a refund (along with some free gaskets). If they sell you Dura-Junk they should stand behind it. Even Auto-Zone gives 30 day warranties on stuff.

Who is the manufacture for the autozone pump. Autozone does not make pumps, some manufacture is making the pump and putting Autozones name on it. Autozone knows who's making the pumps.

A1 Cardone is a good manufacture as others

I put an ASC Industries WP461HD pump on mine 4 years ago. ASC was USA made - cost about 80 dollars from Advanced Auto. I think they may still be US made. Should say on the box or you can check their website.

I too just installed a Stewart Aluminum water pump and a Dewitts Aluminum radiator, neither of them inexpensive, but American made and look to be made with real quality. You don't always get what you pay for, but do most of the time! $30 for a water pump? Don't walk, RUN!!!

I thought the "new" Autozone pumps were ASC pumps made in Canton,Ohio. In the past they have been good pumps. You said you paid $30...that sounds more like the price of a rebuilt pump but I could be wrong.
How did you refill the cooling system after you put the pump in ? If you filled through the radiator its possible you had air lock and the pump had no coolant in it which could ruin the pump pretty fast.
If you refilled through the plug in the top of the pump or through the thermostat opening I would say its just a bad pump.

EDIT--I was wrong. Advanced sells the ASC brand . The $30 pump at Autozone is a Duralast.
Advanced has an ASC pump for $33 and a heavy duty for $85... WP461HD as stock76 said in his post

One thing that will also kill the bearing is an over tight drive belt.

No decent water pump will waste a bearing that quickly, no matter how tight you make the belt. Get your money back and go buy a good quality water pump. You probably don't need a $200 pump...but you [obviously] need to spend more than 30 buck$ if you want it to live.

{People do realize that Auto-Zone, et al, make more accumulated profit on cheap junk than they do on good quality products....don't they? }

Guys, inside the pump, are the bearing and shaft encased or are they exposed to the coolant and use the coolant for lubrication?
