Hi
I have a 1980 stock vette, I just purchased a B&M transkit P/N 30229. while pre reading the instructions it says that it will not work on the TH-350C. According to the instructions if there is an electrical plug on the drivers side then the tranny is a TH-350C. I have an electrical plug with only 1 wire but it is a 2 pin plug. Does this mean that I do have a TH-350C lock-up converter and if so what P/N B&M transkit will I need.
I think you do have the TH-350C. This happened to me when I was looking for a TH350 for my 78 camaro, I ended up buying a th350c and just ended up selling that one and bought a non lock up 350. I don't think they make shift kits for 350c, the only thing you might be able to do is install a B&M adjustable vac. modulator for like $28 and see if that works. The modulator works like a shift kit depending on how you adjust it, I have this and a manual/automatic valve body on my th350 in my camaro and it works great.
Call B&M and ask them if you can use that shift kit if you disconnect the lockup clutch. If so, you could put a manual switch on the lockup signal line and make sure that it is switched OFF when you want to "put the pedal to it", but leave it ON for normal driving. There could also be some "weak" area in the TH350C design that won't tolerate the harsher shifts of the shift kit. B&M should know.
I just had my tranny rebuilt, and the guy said there was a shift improver kit in the valve body, but wasnt sure which one was in it? He rebuilt it with the lock up intact. and i had the converter brought up to 1800-2000 stall and beefed up for the new motor 350hp and 390 tq.
