Use a 'dummy' wood plate and some hand squeeze clamps to evenly compress the new plastic frame and the carpet so you can put all retaining screws in without stresses. If you need to, you can shave some of the knap off the carpet that will be under the frame. No problem....
i just did this yesterday. used some home depot construction adhesive around the edges(about 1" in) and set the carpet. after it set overnight, i used a sharp utility knife to trim the carpet from the underside with a piece of wood as a cutting backboard. just followed the door as a pattern. cut out the lock holes from the top side-it doesn't have to be perfect because the lock acts an escutcheon. fastened the plastic edges with #6 flat head screws. probably the easiest job of doing the interior. which leads me to my other post-rear window storage.
I have had the 3 doors off about a week now, going to do the same thing today/this week.....I"m making new doors and going to cover in black formica, easy to keep clean...I have plenty of black accents/parts in my brown/saddle interior....
After removing the factory plastic frames, locks etc. I test fit the door frame bezels first for a good fit without major binding. Sometimes I grind/sand lightly any areas that are causing a proper fit to the door themselves. Then I glue the carpet to the doors and when dry trim the carpet and install the door frame bezels. I use small phillips screws to secure the door bezel to the door itself.
