I have a 6A on a 350 chevy motor in a '73 Vette. Car has TBI injection with GM computer controlled HEI distributor. Coil is MSD.
This car has run well for 7-8 years. A few months ago it would not start. Went through the wiring and could not find an issue. But it ran afterwords just fine for a few months.
Recently the tach was acting weird, at times it would stop working. The tach is electric from a latter model Vette. It runs direct from the MSD box.
Today went to start the car and it would not fire up. Checked connections and found nothing. Then it did start. Went to drive it and it has an awful miss from about 1500 to 3000 RPM. Tach was showing strange movement and even stopping at times.
Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Its just a guess but it could be the module in the distributor. Does the distributor have a bunch of wires coming out of it? I assume when you say TBI you ar talking about the one and only out of an 82 Vette.

In the typical TBI's the Tach wire goes beside the BAT wire on the distributor. But is seems you have an external MSD coil so it makes sense that it would come from there.

No this is a TBI from a Chevy P/U aorund early 90's. Same basic setup as TPI.

Today I replaced my MSD coil with the original stock Chevy coil and it seems to be running OK. The tach is still weird but I think the board on it is dying.

Tach comes from the MSD 6A.
