Default 71 Auto x-member question

If I remove the trans x-member to clean/rustproof/por-15 is there any danger of damaging my frame? In other words is the x-member on there to support the trans only or does it provide extra frame support? Assume the trans is out of the car. Thanks!

It has to come out to remove the auto trannie anyway, so I'd say there is no danger of frame damage.

Ok, wasn't aware of that. Guess that was a pretty dumb question.

The frame will not do anything to the frame alignment (I removed/installed mine endless number of times!) .. It serves two things, holding the transmission and the parking brake cable's pulley.
