Default Wierd automatic transmission

Just bought this 1973 coupe and finally got thru Motor Vehicle. Had issues with the CO2 count. Have a Hydormatic 400 3speed and in between shift it is a very hard shift. Some says I have "shift kit" installed. It was rebuilt 6000 miles ago. Is this a standard thing? If not, how do I get rid of this action? Can i remove the shift kit easily and will it become a smooth shift. Sometimes I have to look in the mirror to see if my head is still on. hahaha! Was wondering if a newer 4 speed trans would be better

Yeah that what seems like an agressive/firm shift kit that has been added to your trans. in the past. You can return it to stock using a standard shift kit and its relatively easy, you can do it while trans. is in the car, you only have to remove the pan.

AND depending on who's kit it was, maybe the brain plate was drilled, the springs for the iron valve body, and accumulator valves....

in other words, a complete stock tranny to steal parts from...

rebuilders toss that stock crap in the junk heap...

MY advice, enjoy the shifts, it's a sports car, and the tranny will live longer too....
