I want to use some of the various rubber parts that seem to still be just fine other than discoloration in general and rust stains from staples. I have them cleaned up. I used rust stain remover for toilets. It foams up and a wipe or two with a brush and it is gone. But I would like to still pretty them up a little. Is there a flexible paint or some other ideas you guys have done with success?
Is it really 'rubber' or is it a synthetic material. If it is a synthetic, you might be able to color it with vinyl dye. I can't say that it will hold up, as I've never really tried that, but vinyl dye bonds with the material you are coloring and should be able to move with it. I doubt that even vinyl dye will adhere well to real rubber.

If you just want them to look better (similar to new condition), then give them a coat [or two] of Nu-Vinyl. It is the best stuff for any vinyl, plastic, or rubber part. Wipe it on...let it dry. That's it. Dries clear, doesn't peel or yellow with time, seals out water, stays flexible and you can put on as many coats as you want. Good for interiors, weather stripping, engine compartment hoses, electrical wiring insulation, tires [yes, I said tires...]. Amazing stuff...
