Default replacement to led bulbs in dash. help needed,

I am currently replacing the complete eletrical system on my 73 corvette. And I am going to replace the bulbs inside the car to led in the same time.

The ting is, I remember reading someplace that one or more of the bulb couldent be changed to led. because it also acted as a resistor?

Anyone who have replaced to led who could tell me if this is correct. and if so witch bulb / bulbs have to stay original?

The only thing I heard was the turn signal system might need a different flasher for leds, in the tail lights.

Also the dimmable effect comes into play.

The generator light has to stay as a bulb, it provides the voltage sensing function for the alternator. You will need to replace the flashers with a new one if you change the outside lamps.

I am counting on that they wont be dimmable anymore. but that is not someting i are going to miss. The light is not bright enough at full if you ask me. Someting i hope will improve now.

superbrightleds.com has a great selection and delivered my order very fast.. i've only bench tested them thus far in the cluster out of the car, but i'm very happy with them vs the original bulbs.. i won't have to get my cell phone out and hold it up to the cluster to see how much gas i have at night anymore

I belived all c3 had that light, but i have not been able to locate one on my 73.

I have the following:
Door ajar
Seatbelt
headlamps.

Does the 73 not have this lamp?
Am i supposed to have a resistor, and where should that be located?

I replaced the dash lamps with LED's in my 70 roadster, they work GREAT but, you will lose the dimming function for the instrument lamps (when voltage goes below the threshold, the LED will just shut off.) Problems arise from installing LED turn signal bulbs because they way less current draw than incandescent bulbs, because there is less current, the bi-metallic flasher that was originally installed in your Vette (a 536 or 552 number flasher) will not properly trigger to intermittantly flash the turn signal bulbs. This problem can be solved by using a later electronic flasher in it's place and most LED sellers have these avalible. I went with wide displacement angle LEDs for my dash and they work EXCELLENT!

I will go ahed and change all bulbs behind the dash to leds then.

I found a resistor on one of the wires for the alternator.

thanks for all feed back.

The replacement of the outside bulbs will be another project.
