Default Battery Question

Need some ideas on what to look for.
Took the 71 out Saturday ran to gas station shut off engine put in gas. Started right up drove for about 1/2 hour stop to see inlaws again shut off engine . Got back in after 1 hour started right up drove about 45 minutes again turn off engine. After about 2 hours got back in started right up. Note drove all the above with radio on. Drove home with headlights on and radio took about 1 1/4 not problems. Got home shut engine off to let wife get into house and open garage. Got back in to drive into garage would not start. Battery would not turn over engine. Jump started to get in. Put trickel charger overnight and battery charge light went to green which means Battery O./K.
Question is what drain battery. What should I check alternator?????

If the battery was in fact low then check the alt belt for tightness. If the battery was up then you might have had an issue with the starter solenoid getting hot.

As said...check the belts first. If they're OK, check the connections on the battery itself and make sure they're good and not corroded. The same goes for the connections on the starter and solenoid.

If all looks OK, have the alternator checked...it may be charging amps but not charging volts.

You can get your multi meter out and check it. First put your multi across the battery post and take a reading-then start the car and take another reading and see if the 2nd reading is larger than the first.
Another fairly simple way is start the engine and turn on the dome light-now watch the light and raise the engine RPM to 1500-did the light get brighter ? Now keeping the light on and rpm at 1500 and turn the headlights on- what did the light do,did it dim and then recover ? Now add in the blower motor. The dome should recover with almost all items turned on. If it doesn't recover you have a weak output.

If all else fails, check ground cable connections - battery negative cable bolted to crossmember under car and engine block to chassis ground cable, near the starter.

No not the battery the alternator. If the alternator won't keep up with the load of the headlights and blower it will never be able to fully charge your battery.
