When I purchased this 427 BB the person who had this has 2 sets of points in the distributor, and took the tripower out and put dual quads carbs. do I really need 2 set of points to run with the dual quads. Seems to run a little rough no matter how I tri set set these points???
The number of point sets installed has nothing to do with how many or what type of carburetors, it is a method of allowing a greater dwell angle beyond the normal 30 degrees of a single set. Sort of redundant and anachronistic if you're not revving the crap out of your engine.
Having the dual point set up allows the points to overlap. One set is closing while the other is opening. The overlap allows you longer dwell time and will supply voltage to the coil longer! You'll get a hotter spark!
I don't think this is your problem unless they are nto adusted properly.
You adjust them by I blocking one set, adjust the other to 29 degrees dwell.
Then block the first set and adjust the other set to 29 degrees dwell. Once you are done you should check the total dwell and it should be 34 degrees dwell with both sets combined.
