Default low oil pressure,please help

my 1980 corvette oil pressure is about 20 in idle,,and 30 when cruising,

is that normal or does it seem low?

i checked oil level is good,,i recently changed air filter assembly, valve covers ,dual exhaust pipes with out cats or mufflers and harmonic balancer,,

when i first start the car i have to warm it up for some time or it will stall. soon after driving the car it seems perfect though.

you should have 35-45lbs of pressure on that engine i would hook up a mechanical oil pressure tester to it and see exactly what the oil pressure is.

this would tell you if it is a bad oil pressure sending unit.

the bad thing it could be is when engines start getting wear on the main and rod bearing the first symptom is low oil pressure especially after engine warmsup the oil.

ok went out to the garage to look at my new engine for my 1980 vett and just as i thought the oil pressure sensor is on the block right by the oil filter on the side, the oil pressure sensor should be screwed into the block right there.

unscrew the sensor and screw a mechanical oil pressure gauge into that hole and it will give you an acurate reading.

could be a bad oil pressure sensor this will tell you if it is bad or if it is a bad problem.

don't wait to long to test. Assuming a bad sensor when you have a failed pump or worn bearings will cost ya!

That's not bad oil pressure for an engine with some miles on it.
