Default Clutch help needed!!

I replaced the clutch in my '76 with an Exedy OE clutch for a Chevy, including TO bearing. I installed the TO bearing correctly (I think). I noticed that the TO bearing could not seat fully onto the fork in order to line it up with the imput shaft. Now there is little adjustment. If I adjust it for 1-2" of free play, I can't get the clutch to release fully. If I adjust it to release fully, there is no free play. Everything is stock and not bent or loose. I heard somewhere that the vettes use a different clutch or TO bearing than a standard Chevy. I plan to pull it apart next week. What should I look for. Any critical measurements to check?

Make sure the up stop on your pedal under the dash is not bent down. Also you dont need the whole 1" of free play, just enough so the throwout bearing is not running. Also make sure your linkage is not worn.

Thanks. I have it set up to barely clear the TO bearing. It shifts OK, but I'm starting to hear the TO bearing whine a little. I guess my main question is whether or not the vette uses a special size chevy clutch or TO bearing. Any ideas??

Look for excessive wear on clutch arm pivot ball as this changes the travel geometry.

Look for any loss of travel due to wobbly joints. The clutch arm pivot ball as Duke said and the opposite end of that on the frame and the pivot under the dash connected to the pedal. The Corvette clutch mechanism is not very forgiving when it comes to wear,if you have a little wear at each pivot it will likely add up to enough to create a problem.

Thanks guys. I checked the Exedy web site, and I have the correct vette clutch. I've got the car on jackstands, and I'm going to check all the linkage and pivot points. I found no obvious problems yet. Are there 2 different size TO bearings? I read somewhere that vette's use a different bearing.
