Default Blinker help 1980

I think i have a problem with my blinker/parking light anyone with a similar years can help. When the headlights are OFF:

Hit my blinker and both the front amber and side amber blink simultaneously (wow spell check says i spelled that right)

When i turn on the headlights and hit the blinker the lower white light comes on and the front and side amber blink but not at the same time.

Now i noticed this because the engine is not in the car and i thought before i get it back i wanted to clean the engine bay and pull out some wires that look like they shouldn't be there. After pulling the harness covers off i noticed one unnesesary wire was junctioned with four other wires and it looked like someone had attempted to use this wire for a ground. So it looks like somone got in there and bubba'd it up .

So do you think it is a ground(my trailer did this with a bad ground) or something might be totally wired wrong after dude got ahold of it. I'll try my assembly manual tomorrow and try to run down some wire colors but let me know what you think. Look for another post in a couple days i pulled something out of the engine bay and i have no idea what it is(not factory installed).

That sounds about right. The side marker lights don't have their own ground--they get their grounds through the parking light filaments and through the turn signal filiments. So when the turn signal is on the side marker is grounding through the parking light but when the parking lights are on also it will get its ground through the turn signal which is flashing and interrupting the ground to the side marker.

I'm still confused as to which ones should be on or blinking, and which one is considered the parking light on the side, the amber or clear. It sure didn't look right. there was a junction with about 6 ground wires going to it then one off of that going to the alternator and another one going back to a grounding strap by the firewall.

Damn, I thought Walter C. was all knowing and a pretty good communicator. I guess we failed this time. Your lights work the way they were designed to.
