Default Replacing Front Rubber Brake Lines on a 78SA

I have been trying to search the threads for tips on replacing the front rubber brake lines on my 78SA. It seems the right line is rubbing on something when I turn as it has a worn spot on it. I have several questions on the procedure. One, do I need to remove the caliper? Two, how do you limit the twist since there is no swivel fitting? Finnally what is the proper placement (route) for the hose. Most pictures are very hard to see and I am not certain the drivers side is routed correctly. Thanks the_big_blue_1

You might post a picture of what your brake line looks like. I say this as there SHOULD be a "U" clip on the female fitting at the frame bracket. You first install the hose to the caliper (using NEW copper washers) and torque to spec. Then, with the weight of the vehicle on the suspension, you pass the female fitting through the frame bracket. With the LEAST amount of twist in the hose you attach the hose to the brake pipe, then install the "U" clip.

Detailed instructions are in the Brake Section of the Corvette Shop Manual.

You want to soak the brake hose threads with penetrating oil so that you do not damage the brake pipe. Be sure to use a good quality flare wrench when tightening/loosening these parts.
