Default Need help with my engine combo.

Sorry to keep asking these questions but I've got the following combo so far:

Stock L-48 bottom end (to be replaced later with a roller 383 - $$$$)
GMPP Fastburn Aluminum heads (Purchased)
-62cc combustion chambers
Comp Cams 260XFI H13 (Gift from NMSharkRacer)
-216/223 @ 0.50
-.499/.493 lift w/1.6RR
-113 LSA
1.6 Self Aligning Full Roller Rockers
Vortec Dual Plane Intake Manifold (still deciding which one)
Stock QJET
TH400 with stock 3.09(?) differential

I'm looking at using a .29 gasket(GMPP#10105117)to get a little better quench and boost the compression a touch. what kind of power am I looking at and does anyone have a recomendation for a manifold? Too many choices out there and i'm not sure between the RPM and regular Performer lines from edelbrock. I'm looking for a fun, but not too radical street engine that pulls to about 5800rpm.

Is the vehicle you are working on the '72 in your sig? If so, you may run into clearance issues if you go with anything other than a conventional Performer intake. I have a Performer RPM on mine, but it's a '75 and I believe they have a little more hood clearance than the earlier C3s.

You may not be able to wind to 5800rpm with that cam. It's pretty small. I have a slightly larger cam in my motor with the same heads as you, and I don't wind it much over 5000.

from the cam specs it says its operating range is 1500-5500 so it's fairly close. I figure I'll go with a larger roller cam when I do the bottom end later to get it closer to the 5800-6000 limit.

what cam are you running and what specs are your engine?

My cam is the Lunati Voodoo 262/268 (.219/.227@.050, lift is .499/.522 with 1.6 roller rockers). The advertised range for the cam is 1400-5800.

The rest of the engine is a 350 bored .040 (357), Keith Black forged flat-tops, Edelbrock Performer RPM, Holley 650DP, GMPP Fastburns with GMPP 1.6 roller-rocker arms, and Hooker Super Comp sidemount headers.

A friend of mine ran desktop dyno for me with this combo, and it made about 350hp and almost 450tq, but it totally fell on its face after about 5200rpm.

how you do you like your cam? do you ever wish you went bigger? any torque lost by going with the performer RPM vs the regular performer?

Right now as it sits it will be a pretty nice little street engine, nothing too awful impressive, but good enough to have some get up and go without breaking drivetrain parts.
I would personally rebuild the bottom end of the engine, it is probably a 2 bolt block so I would recommend some ARP studs for the mains. Definately some new rod and main bearings.
As far as the gasket it depends on how far down in the hole your pistons are. If it is zero decked you would be better to go with a .41 compressed thickness gasket, if it isnt a .26 compressed should be a little better at getting you to a good quench point.
Also, GMPP 10105117 head gasket says it is for use with aluminum heads, but I have long understood with those gaskets you can brinell the heads and potentially ruin them.
However, even though that is a composite gasket, I have ran steel shim gaskets on my aluminum heads in a 496 I built one time with no problems.
Also, ditch that q-jet, they are a pain to tune, I would go with an edelbrock personally, but everyone seems to love holley's as well.
When you do get that top end on, be SURE to measure pushrod length, make sure you are dead on point with your pushrod length.
I dont think you will pull til 5800 either. That cam isnt too awful big, and when you get that 383 be sure to get a small base diameter cam with a lot more duration and lift. The more cubic inches the harder it is for the engine to reliably turn more RPM'S.

I like this cam pretty well. It makes gobs of torque. It also pulls 16in vacuum at idle, which is a definite plus. That said, yeah, I'm eventually going to step up the cam a couple sizes. With the manual trans and future plans for 3.70 gears, I can afford to. As far as the RPM, it's a tried and true manifold, and I doubt you would lose any torque at all over the Performer, and you'd most certainly make a little more power. You didn't say what year car you have, but if it's an early C3, watch out for hood clearance with the RPM.
