I set up the rear bearings on my 71 with the setup tool from duntov motors. Endplay was between .002 and .003. I assembled everything today and it feels kind of tight. I have the housing full of grease, maybe too much. Could it be hydraulic pressure causing some drag when turning the spindle? Could it loosen up after some use? Thanks for the help. I want to make sure it's right before I send the tools back.
The same thing happened to me. I really can't tell what kinda tight means so the best way to tell if your endplay is right is to put a dial on it and measure after you have it all assembled and torqued down. If you have less than .001 then you are going to have to pull it apart and increase the shim. When I did mine I know the endplay decreased from setup to final, can't explain why just know it did.

The end play is reduced by the grease. So if the end play was right with the set up tool, then you gotta believe its right after the final assembly, it's just the grease taking up some of the play.
Thanks for the help, guys! I know I probably over- greased it. Some grease pushed past the seals when I seated the spindle. I will drive it awhile then check the endplay periodically. If I have to, I can re-shim it later.
