Hi all,
Traced a leak to the '71 wiper actuator seal- it's torn badly now. Already ordered a new seal, but can't figure out how to get the old one off and the new one on. Looks like it's clamped/sealed to the diaphragm inside? Thanks.
Just realized the seal I ordered is for a late '69 from corvette central-oops. Don't see anything else. Is there a way to fix these?
Hi Dave,
I believe CC's 653037 will work on your 'pie-pan' style 71 actuator. I believe the seal is fastened to the outer 'can' not the diaphragm. Since they sell it there must be a way to make the change. (I hope.)
Regards,
Alan
Yes, there are two "seals for your "pie pan " style vacuum actuator. The one is a rubber plug that is in the end of the actuator. The other is the coned shaped seal that goes around the area where the rod moves in and out of the actuator. IF you inner diapphram is torn...your actuator is trash. Becareful when installing the cone shaped seal. They can tear easily if forced to aggressivly. The area where the inner seal is in the end of the small diameter portion of the cone seal needs to be protetcted when installing. This area fits into a groove in the shaft and the threads on the rod can damage it if they are not taped off. Make sure the groove is CLEAN from old rubber, oil, dirt etc. Also take your time in making sure the cone seal if fitted CORRECTLY and SEATED into the actuator. IF not, it may pull out when cycled.
