"73 vette with a 350 crate motor problems
Just got ownership of this 73 vette and found out it has a Mexican crate 350 motor. It has a Eldelbrock 600 carb and I can not get the engine to run smooth. Checked timing, at 12 degs it runs rough, bumped it up to almost 16degs (not good thing to do, I know) and it smoothed out a little. New points, plugs, etc. Give it a little gas and it runs rough, almost like something electrical is breaking down. Going to replace spark plug wires, distributor cap and condensors next. Hve the jets on carb turned out 3 turns just to get it to idle somewhat decent, but I can still hear it burbling. Much worse when I increase the rpm's a little. Don't know how much due to tack is not working. They changed the distributor too. No tack drive. Will any HEI tach drive distributor fit it??????. What do you all think I should try next????? Need help here badly!!!!

have you checked for a vacume leak,either at a hose or intake manafold or carburator base gasket leaking?
i would check to make sure that your not sucking air where your not suppose to be.
this symptome could be a vacume leak somwhere,i think

Tighten all of the carb bolts and checked for vacuum leaks.......none that I could find. Distributor????????????? vacuum advance?????????? Do not know......beyond me at this point, but will check more for vacuum leaks THANKS!!!!!!!!!!
