Run a search on the forum there are lots of great posts on this. If you are talking about Hooker Competition Headers and 4" sidepipes then...
Costs are roughly:
Cost about $1000 for complete setup
Cost about $500 for Jet Hot Coating
Cost about $300 for JCL Baffles
Cost about $50.00 for Stage 8 locking header bolts

Duals have the advantage. The best exhaust runs straight back through the crossmember w/ mufflers at the end.
Probably came from 50s Lakes pipes which were run open. Then when mufflers are added stock type are very restrictive. Header type sidepipes & better mufflers will help. Restrictive, in the way & burns are cons. Seems to me a guy has to really like side pipes to have them.
