Or, you can keep the Reflectix under the pedal but make adjustment to the throttle cable at carb and/or at pedal when you get done. You will have to do something about that issue.

I don't believe that the foam on the rear wheel humps is from the factory...but it looks like whoever did it did a good job. Leave it alone, as it will probably cut sound/heat as well as what you are planning to do elsewhere. I think you have a solid plan and it looks like you are coming along just fine.

Thanks again for the sound advice. I Guess i'll have to get up close and personal with my accelerator pedal to see what you are talking about but I will definitely address this before permanently putting anything down. In your opinion - how much room do you think i have under the pedal? Enough for at least one layer of Either Heat shielding or Sound Deadener? Or nothing at all but Carpet? I agree regarding the Foam covering the Wheel Humps - it was done very well and I do intend to leave it in place. Just got my new Speaker wire in today and all of my FatMat Sound Deadener. It seems good quality and I can't wait to get started this weekend. Just need those darned Floor Plugs To continue
I'll post some additional pictures later this weekend. I'll be happy just to get all the Under-carpet preparation completed this weekend and the following Weekend - I'll Install the new Carpet. I just got my new Door Panels in too; This is going to be great! My Little Vette will be almost like New inside within the next two weeks! Everything smells so nice too! Yes - i smelled it, the new Leather, Carpet, etc... Couldn't help myself because before everything smelled very old and though that does hold a certain bit of Charm - i could get by with a smaller dose of it

By the Way - I purchased most of my materials through Willcox Corvette. Norm and Tommy out there have been wonderful to deal with and They have spent a great deal of time with me over the phone to insure that I get just the Right Parts. And they Really Know their Corvettes! I did look at some of the other Well known Parts Sites but I ended up going with Willcox for their Personal Attention and Helpfulness.

Cheers ~ Joe

By the way - one thing i meant to ask but didn't. In the second Photo of my previous post - you can see a small grey courtesy Light receptacle hanging down just where the kick panel goes. I have one just like it on the passenger side as well. These lights have always just hung there (they work too!) as long as i have owned her. I know they must actually clip on or mount to something.... WHERE?

If you just need to replace the long rubber plugs in the floor, you can install them from the outside, underneath the car. I installed them from the outside on my '79. They will fit right into the holes pretty easy. Don't let waiting for those plugs kill your progress.

Joe,
Here's two threads from when I did my interior - with picts.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...t-project.html

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...done-pics.html

Regarding the accelerator pedal, I just cut a small V/rectangle out of the reflectix behind and to the right of the pedal. Not enough area to allow excessive heat but ensured no interference.

Thanks - I never thought of putting the plugs in from the bottom... No big deal though - they should be here today or tomorrow and I can start this weekend ... YAY!!

BTAL, wow - what a wonderful job you did on your interior! Very impressive. I love the Speaker Bar that you have back there. Did you make that custom? If you purchased it - where did it come from? I hope mine turns out as nice

I have Reflectix (but no sound deadener) under the accel pedal in my '71. I did have to adjust the throttle linkage to assure that the secondaries would open completely when depressing the pedal (which is not the same as pulling the throttle linkage with your hand).

Thank you. I made the bar out of 3/4" mdf then covered with some 1/4" foam fabric then leather-ette outer cover. Finished off with Oyster spray dye from one of the vendors. The amp & speakers have more than enough power for the cabin area of a vette.

Hi I just wanted to post an update to my Carpet replacement project. I'll post some additional photos in the next day or two.
I spent about 6 Hours on Saturday on the Sound Deadener installation... It is easy to work with once you get the hang of it... It is sort of a Tar Based heavy foil backed material... It is very flexible and very sticky. I am such a perfectionist though that it is extremely difficult for me to leave a gap anywhere... so I meticulously cut each piece to fit every small little corner and angle and wedge etc... I have quite enjoyed it though. It's kinda like putting a puzzle together - but you have to actually cut all the pieces yourself. I left a nice rectangle shape under the Accelerator Pedal untouched to avoid any range of motion limits it may introduce. After the 6 hours on Saturday - I spent two hours on Monday finishing up that stage and Two hours last night replacing the two Side A/C Vents as the old ones were just falling apart. They work beautifully now. Having the Duct work pieces out gave me lots of room to maneuver under there and found that I had perfect access to my Speedo Cable as well. I purchased one about 6 months ago and delayed installing it because I was dreading it so... well I popped the old one off last night since I had the Air Duct out of the way and pulled it through the Firewall - and pushed the new one through and put in on in about 5 minutes... I didn't run the other end yet under the car but I’ll do that when I get the car on jack stands later... that part should be pretty quick too. Tonight I'll tackle replacing the A/C Control unit and cable - any advice on that would be much appreciated. Once I do that - ill start on the Heat shielding (Reflectix). Once I have the heat shielding down - I’ll run the new Speaker wires and an Amp wiring Kit to the rear. I don't have an Amp right now but I am sure I will put one in at some point in the future so I want to have all the wiring in place and ready to go for when I need it. I expect the steps above to take me about 8 hours. Once I have completed those - I’ll put the new carpet in. I Hope to do so over the coming weekend. If you are planning on installing new carpet yourself and didn’t' think it would take so much time - you are probably right. I really take my time and spend twice as long doing things as most people due to my meticulous nature... I expect that you could do the job in about 8-10 hours completely if you stayed focused. Ok - that's it for today - photos of the sound deadener coming this evening or tomorrow.

Cheers ~ Joe

Ok Here are the Photos of the Sound Deadener Install. I am now done with this phase. I also provided a bright shiny photo of my One of my New A/C Vents I am so proud of it because getting all that duct work out and cleaning it and getting it back in was quite a chore but I am very pleased with the outcome! I also got the new AC / Temperature Control Unit in with a brand new Cable and Now that functions perfectly as well... Now that I have all that work done - i will next install all of the Heat Shielding and Speaker / Amp Wiring... Followed by the new Carpet - YEY!!!

Ill link some photos of the Heat Shielding Phase once completed - that should be in the next two days.

Cheers ~ Joe

My car was from up north so parts of the floor pans rusted through by snow on the driver's shoes. I cut the rusted parts out and put new sheet metal in its place. After doing that I used a under coating to prevent anymore rust. Good luck.

Wow - the difference between the before and after photos are amazing. Thankfully - mine is pretty much rust free. You certainly seemed to have done a very nice job on restoring your Floor.

Thanks for sharing this.

Default one more thingy

I'm getting ready to replace the carpet in my 74 vette next week.

I always replace the heater core when replacing the carpet. Generally , my carpets over the past 30 years of owning corvettes is damaged mostly from a floorpan of coolant that appears every few years.. If I'm going to tear the car apart , and go to the trouble to put in new carpet , why take a chance of ruining it with an old heater core. That might bust anyday . they are 35.00 -45.00

Default reflectix

All,

Please read what happened to me with reflectix. Just a heads up. It's still in my car but I can spread the word.

I covered the reflectix on the center console with an inner tube that I cut into strips. That gave me an "insulator" between the wires and switches.

Thank you for sharing this AndyCw. It's kinda funny but as I was laying down my sound deadener last week - it occurred to me that this stuff is foil backed and so is the reflectix and could possibly cause a short in the right setting. I was actually thinking about that but wondered what the odds would really be.... No one has mentioned this possibility yet but now that you have I will take this seriously. I will definitely put something under the shifter area to cover the foil. I certainly don't want any surprises down the road. I haven't progressed any since my last post as I have been very busy with a project at work. I will start laying reflictix tomorrow and move forward. I was thinking of using this Huge roll of Velcro that i have (the soft side) to stick to the top of the foil. It's about 3 inches wide and would take maybe 8 strips to do the job. It is a nice and thick and I think would mitigate any possibility of a short in there... I'll poke around the garage and see if any other solution presents itself to me but I like that idea so far as it is already Adhesive Backed... just peel and stick. More photos to follow tomorrow. Thanks again!

I got a little side-tracked with an A/C Control Problem (which I was able to resolve thanks to some of our wonderful members ) but this evening I made considerable progress on the Carpet Install Preparations. I headed the warning by AndyCw and first installed the heat shielding under the console followed by a covering layer of a non-conductive material. For me - I used some very heavy duty 3-inch Velcro that has a super sticky backing... I just cut several pieces and put them in place over the heat shielding... You can tell from the Photos that I only did the Console/Tunnel Area in the front of the car and then moved to the rear... All that is left now is the Driver and Passenger side. I am really enjoying this project and it is going quite well. I have cleaned up a lot of things that I have uncovered along the way and I expect my little 78 beauty to be very happy once I have finished.

Well here are the Photos... I started with the Heat Shield Photos of the Console/Tunnel - followed by the Layer of non-conductive material - followed by the Rear of the Car. More coming in the next few days as I progress.

By the way - Reflectix is super Easy to work with... Once you fight through the sound-deadener install and all of its sticky woes - laying the reflectix down is cake.

Cheers ~ Joe
