The thing is - this would still require a metal key to turn the ignition on...then a second step to push the button - not cool.
I would like to wire the keyless entry system to turn the ignition on so when you get in you just push the button - no metal key. - then ... how do you turn it off????
your current key does 2 jobs,
#1 is supply power to the car when the key is on.
#2 starts and stops the car.
also anyone can also just push the button,
this would also be a huge negative to anyone,
in the future considering buying your corvette.
If you want cool, just buy a remote start system.
I'm thinking if you had a keyless entry module that would use a power door lock type actuator to push the ignition on when you unlock the door - then when you get in you can just push the button to start - turn it off by either an "off" button, or back on the fob....
go to youtube, do a search for rfid remote push button start. there are several out there. i saw one i really liked but cant remember the one it was. they use a wireless transmitter to arm the system and the push botton starts and stops the car.

i found it. it is the StarDrive Push Button Start system. you dont have to handle your keys at all. you just have to have the rfid fob with you to arm the system. the button handles the start, stop, and acc.'s on the car.

How would you unlock the steering wheel
and on a automatic car how would you
get it in drive
That is why I'm thinking I could mount a power door lock actuator or a linear actuator on the steering column (down low) that would pull the pin down and also push the switch forward.
Then...how cool would it be to put the START button in the hole where the ignition switch would normally be.
that would be a cool set up. i have a flaming river column and a hurst pistol grip shifter, so none of that stuff applies on mine, but if you are keeping the interior close to stock that looks like a very good solution. the linear actuator should work very well for that. set it up off of the acc switch and you are good to go.

Yo...talk to me about that column. I have a flaming river column that came with the car that is set up like a 68 with no ignition switch in the column. Is that what you have? If so...how did you make it work?
I'm thinking about trading that for a stock tilt-tele if possible. Just not sure what to do with it
yes that is what i have. i used a flaming river u-joint and i made my own mount for the underside. it works perfect. some guys will freak out because i used a solid joint and not a rag joint but i have friends that run them all the time with no problems. on a d/d i might have done the rag joint but for this thing i am not worried about the steering gear wear.
this is the best pic i have of the column in the car right now. i forgot to take pics the last time i had it in before i pulled it to do the wiring. the interior is about 85% done now. just some trim work and final sanding and shaping. it is currently epoxy primed. i should have more pics next week when i put the dash back in. i have a thread on it in the general section.

Wow, that is impressive! What is the best aftermarket alarm? Also, what guages are you using? Nice work! BTW, how do you like that Fat Mat? I am doing my interior after the paint shop, and trying to figure out what to go with as far as sound and heat barrier. Jegs, Ecklers, Summit, DynaMat, RammMat, Reflectix, who knows?

do the interior first then remove it for the body work and paint work. i would rather test fit everything before paint.
here is a link to my interior thread. i dont want to hijack this thread so please direct any questions about my build on that thread and i will be happy to answer them. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...many-pics.html
Yes, the remote starters! There is a clue there...isn't there?
We have a remote start on our new Silverado (at trans) - and it does everything but unlock the steering and light up the gauges - it will then shut down after 10 minutes if you don't put the key in.
That's not the point - rather the point is a RF remote start is possible to trigger all the primary functions with a key fob, then when I push the "start button" the car will roar to life....
All you need is a few relays, one is a stepper....and a old garage door opener/hand unit....simple as hell, won't unlock the wheel or tranny, but can start engine, and another touch of the remote it stops the engine....it's a easy hookup, really....
This would let me keep my flaming river non-ignition switch column, and integrate this system. There would be no key then - keyless entry for the doors would come through the option/trunk pop on the fob. It would work just like a C6!
I guess the big issue would be running the battery dead from leaving the fob near the car.
