Default Bird Cage Repairs

Anyone know of a repair shop to take care of a rust out section for the lower windshield area on a 69 ??
Sounds like a major ugly job ?
I am looking at a 69 from up north that has a such a rust problem.
The vin tag is rusted away etc ???
Just thought I would ask ???

To Pay someone else to do it will cost you many thousands of $$$, plus don't think for a minute that that is all the rust that will need repaired.. windshield frame rust is almost always a sign of other major rust problems. if the VIN tag is gone you are in for a nightmare getting it titled and even sold in the future when you try to sell it..

I hope you are getting it real cheap?

rusted that bad be prepaired to rip the firewall off also !
It is the only way to get to the rust under the firewall !
Better think twice about the magnatude of work required to fix it !

Hi sfs,
I have to agree with JW.
A car with birdcage rust is usually enough reason to walk away unless you can fix it yourself.
A car with a missing VIN tag, or one that's not properly attached to the windshield post, is another reason to walk.
The 2 together are pretty scary.
Regards,
Alan

sfsvettes,
I do Corvette restorations and repairs for a living in Charlotte NC. And..... eventhough I am "taking food out of my mouth". I would tell you to FIND ANOTHER CAR...unless this is the missing unknown 3rd 69 ZL-! with all the options.... or a 69 that is REALLY RARE. The costs are really high like what was earlier posted. Can I do it....YES. WILL do it....YES. WILL your wallet HATE IT....YES. It is up to you. THIS IS A MAJOR dis-assembly and reconstruction operation.

NCDOT Will get involved with the VIN tag rusted off. Been there before, and they cause for more problems than it is worth.

Default Thanks for the advice

I appreciate your honest opioions....
I guees I am too anxious...You are right.. I will pass on this car...
Silver / Red 69 convertibles are tough to find..
I may have to settle for a silver 69 or 70 with another color interior

Thanks for your solid advice
