Default starting problems

Hi everybody. I have a problem with my new corvette C3 1980. If the car is stopped during 3 or 4 days, when i try to start it, initially it starts but only during a few seconds, later it stops. I try again and it doesn't start no more. But if I press the accelerator many times, finally the car start and run with no problem.
It's a battery problem or another kind of problem?

thank you and sorry about my english

After sitting for a few days, you may want to pump the gas pedal two or three times and then crank the engine. While it is running you may have to tap the gas pedal a few times to keep it running. Your choke may not be set correctly. You may have loose screws in the top plate of the carb (if it is still a Quadrajet). The timing may be off a bit or need an ignition tune up. Your float level in the carb is set to low and over a few days it drops and the fuel pump has not has enough time to get it full while running initially. If when the engine it hot or warmed up, and you shuit it off. If you can crank it up again without touching the gas pedal, it would lead me to think it is a "cold start" problem and may be one of the issues I mentioned above. It is hard to say, without knowing how many miles are on the engine, compression ratio, timing, possible vacuum leaks, bad gas, and many more. Start with the easiest and work from there. The fuel filter can also be a problem, depending on if you know any of the history of the car in regards to previous service and repairs.

Typical Q-jet. Leaks out all of the fuel from the bowls. The only way to really solve the problem is to have someone that knows how to fix it rebuild it. Otherwise you live with it. To start it, first hit the gas pedal about 10 times quickly and try to start it. Do what you can to keep it running long enough to get the gas up.
