Default Transmission Cover Question

I was looking under my 1979 L-82 yesterday and noticed I could see the entire lower half flex plate and lower half of the converter. The car has an AT. Is there a cover that should be covering this that may have came off (or been left off by previous owner)? I have not had this car very long, and this was my first time underneath ? It looks like there should be a cover there....

Appreciate any advice.

And yes, unless some .gov idiot demands you replace it, don't, the extra slight air flow aids in tranny cooling where needed most...the converter....

I been driving them with no cover there for 40+ years...no problems....

I was just worried about something from the road (rubber tire piece, belt, etc) getting caught in the teeth of the flex plate. Makes sense on the cooling. I'll leave it off it it is safe. Thanks !

I run mine without the cover. I think the cooling benefits outweigh the risks.

I doubt there is a measureable cooling benefit and you sure dont want a rock or other debris getting caught in that area. Replace the cover.
