I'm switching to a Ram air box air cleaner assembly but this will necessitate a non-stock breather for the crankcase. None of them I've looked at appeared to fit the original valve covers. Is there one that any of you have experience with that will fit the valve cover and not look terribly out of place in a stock appearing engine compartment?
I'm trying to keep my modifications- except for headers and the air cleaner to look like I didn't do anything but a "krylon rebuild". The truth is far from appearances would suggest!
The stock air cleaner has a built in filter provision that is connected to the right hand valve cover through a steel tube. This is not present in the ram air box enclosure, and is not easily added.
Any air drawn into the crankcase must be filtered if it is not to draw in dirt with the air. Dirt in the crankcase quickly mixes with the oil and causes damage to the bearings and every other part of the engine.
If possible, I would like to find some kind of filtered breather that is compatible with stock valve covers.
You can buy the filter components for air cleaners which have a tube for connecting a breather hose, if that's what you need. It would be a simple task to put a hole in the air cleaner box for it. They may even come with the retaining clip; or the right sized [wire] hose clamp should hold it in place.
