Default 1978 Antenna

I am removing the antenna to repair it, and was hoping someone might have a diagram of where the antenna wires go through the body. I don't see where the wires plug into the harness and all the antenna pictures show a plug. This car only has 1600 miles on it and I know the antenna is original; is the plug under the car or inside near the fender?

If no plug visible near the antenna, look behind the driver side rear speaker or blockoff panel. If nothing there, no plug. Some go all the way to the relay without a connector.
If you find a plug by the speaker, you'll need to pop the rubber plug out of the fender and slit it lengthwise with a razer knife to get the wires out.
Seems most people just clip the wires and resplice them fom underneath, then slip the splices through the rubber grommit to hide them.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I was a little confused because most of the antenna photos show a plug at the end of what appears to be an 18 inch lead. Maybe I didn't look carefully enough inside the car.

The wiring diagram for 1978s does not show power antenna wiring plugging into any harness. The coaxial antenna lead runs direct from the antenna to its connector on the rear of the radio. The leads for power to the antenna motor (dark green, gray, & white 18 gauge wires) run inside a common black wiring cover from the antenna to the antenna relay mounted under the center arm rest. Those wires are terminated into a connector that plugs into the relay, which is a small rectangular can. Here is a link to a photo of the relay:

1978 Power Antenna Relay

All antenna wiring enters the body through a hole in the splash shield just inboard of the upper antenna mount, and then enter the interior through a grommet along with the rear electrical wiring harness. Antenna wiring is routed underneath the carpeting behind the driver's seat to the center console.

I hope this helps.

Good luck,
Jerry
