I like them both but I am trying to save as much money as I can... only reason I would like the ZR-1s better is because I have chrome sidepipes so they would match. Im buying them ASAP so lets hear your opinions!
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
You are not limited to what the Corvette vendors sell. Any wheel with the correct dimensions, diameter, width, backspacing etc will fit. I have chrome Coys C5 wheels on my '80, 18 x 9.5 on the back and 17 x 8 on the front
There are many others, do a "Show me your wheels" thread and you will see a variety of good looking aftermarket wheels
Yeah I could of also gotten my dads old rims off of his 08' Vette but I dont like the offset sizes. 19's in the back 18's up front. They look nice but I also dont want to have to deal with backspacing issues and all that with his.
I like the fact the SLP rims are made to fit easily and they look nice. I just cant decide between the chrome or hyperblack... I cant really see the sides on the blacks too well. I really like the look of those two rims... bleh decisions decisions.
Here's a link to a thread about the Hyper Blacks http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...r1-wheels.html I think they look nice but if you want to match your side pipes...........you also said you want to save as much money as you can. Decisions.....decisions.... Either way I don't think there is a bad choise. Of course that's if you want to limit yourself to that one style of wheel. Now if you're willing to consider additional styles the choises are just about limitless.
Motor head: if you dont mind man i would love to know what backspacing and tire size you have on your car. and if you had to do any moding to fit em. i already have the offset ta's, and im nervous about cutting the spring or notching to frame. YOUR CAR LOOKS AWSOME. thanx.
Now here's a good question... I just bought the hyperblacks.. what would be a good tire size to put on them. I was thinking 255/50R17 but if I can go wider with the tires without rubbing in the front I would like to... any ideas there?
i used to have the black chromes on my GS. when they were new they looked good. like dark black chrome. after @ a year or so only the area around the lugs was still dark. the rest of the rim looked almost like chrome. i think the sun bleaches the black over time. they do look good though, i got nothing but compliments on them. you know you have to post a pic of them on your car now

To answer the original question, I have SLP Hyperblacks on my 78 that I put on last year-they look terrific and with a MUCH better tire than you can get for a 15 in rim have transformed my car. I bought mine last year from mid America for $699 for 4 with free shipping and have recently seen them for $599 from another vendor but cannot remember where (search around).
As for tires, on my 78 with zero modifications, I have Kuhmo Ecsta 255/45/17 ZR's in the front and 255/50/17 ZR's in the rear with the fronts 1 inch shorter than the rear since I wanted to eliminate the droping rear that most of the 78/79's have stock and have 3.70 rear gears so any tire's diameter in the rear that was less than the original 255/60/15's would make it rev more than it does now. If you want to maximize tire performance, I would stay away from S/T rated tires regardless of the width and look for V/Z rated tires which is why I went with the Kuhmos since they had an ultra high performance summer tire in the 2 different sizes I was looking for. If you are not worried about the staggered tires like I was, I would go with 255/45/17's all the way around and you also have a much larger tire selection. The ride is very acceptable and the steering and handling is really impressive. I often read about folks who put really wide tires on different rims for looks and performance and then mount tires that are really not performance tires with S/T/H ratings which often means hard rubber (for long tire wear) and especially for S/T rated tires carcasses that are poor to fair in terms of tire structure when V/Z rated tires are MUCH stronger with MUCH better steering response and handling.
