Am I missing something? I am installing a rebuilt power window motor. The old motor would only run down not up. I checked voltage at the plug and had power in both directions so I am replacing the motor. When I test the new motor before installation I still have the same problem. I checked the power and have 12 volts in both directions. If I jump the motor with 12 volts the motor works in both directions. I have cleaned the contacts at the plug. When I pull to contacts out of the plug, down works in either direction I connect it to and up works neither way? How can I get 12 volts at the plug but it won't power the motor. I am using the same ground connection for all the tests including volt meter and test light.

12 volts at the plug - are you testing the plug for power with a test light to an external ground or thought the wiring harness? If you jumped the motor and it works fine, I would look at the switch or the plug at the switch.
Went through the same thing w/ my motor. Got new one & problems still there. Would go up / down outside car but once installed, did nothing. Had power every where but where I needed it. Frustrating!
Changed the window switches & problem went away.
Good luck!
Thanks for the advice. My first test was with a test light from a ground at the motor to the plug on the harness. Then I substituted a multi meter. Checked the plug at the switch and it was plugged in completely. Pulled the plug and jumped it. Motor worked in both directions. Plugged the harness back into the switch and everything is working correctly. Maybe a little corrosion but I didn't see any. Another mystery!
Get a can of CRC contact cleaner. Those switches collect a lot of crap being positioned like they are. I have rebuilt a couple of them and got them working, but its a bit of a pita
Tried the contact cleaner but didn't work for me. 30 + years of gunk, I guess. Figured once in the console, might as well replace both switches,
hopefully solved that problem for a while & ready to move on to the next .
