We are getting ready to put the beast in my car, 467 big block. I was wondering what series of Flowmasters will give me the best sound. I want it to be loud, not cheap or tinny. Which ones fit the best, and will keep my exhaust tips? Thanks for the help.
All flowmasters are loud. With your displacement, I would get the largest FM case I could fit in. You should have at least 2.5" pipes which means that you have to modify the tips for 2.5" openings.
Be prepared for a massive drone below 2000 rpm. I used to run flows (3-chamber deltas) behind my 454 and didn't care for them at all. I got a headache after 10 minutes of driving.

Re: Best Flowmasters for C3, 1971 (zwede)
I am running the new Delta series 40 in my 580 HP 454 with a cutom 3 inch exhaust. I have a pretty big silod roller .646 .653 lift and 242 and 246 duration at .050. The car sound awesome at idle, very aggresive, almost like a pro stocker. Like Zwede said they tend to drone at around 2000 rpms, we installed a crossover and took car of most of the problem.
You have built a pretty stout 468, so I imagine you want it to sound like it. If you want a very aggresive sounding car get the series 40, and a cross over. :chevy
A crossover pipe and a couple of catalytic converters will improve this situation immensely. Flowmasters give, IMO, the right "Chevy Thunder" sound. :D
" Cats on a '71?!?" you say... There was a short time I had no emissions equipment on my car. I used to choke and my eyes used to water when I backed into the garage. People next to me at traffic lights would glance at the nice car, but then be disgusted by the fumes.
I run 40 series delta flows with 2.5" pipe, no cats and eq (h) pipe. I get the resonance between 1600-1900 rpm but it's not bad with the H pipe. They sound awesome.
The 40s fit great the 50s with larger pipe would be a very tight fit.

Ratman,
Everyones taste is different.Bet you get tired of the Flowmaster drone.
My personal preference is Dynomax Super Turbos and the Oval case Ultra Flows. Each get plenty loud with a motor like you have.
If you search the C3 archives for "Exhaust," you'll find lots of owners complaints about Flowmasters droning sound. They'll typically say the mufflers sound cool at first, but wear on you over time, prompting a switch to DynoMax Super Turbos or other alternatives.

They are the best you can get!Muffler comparison proved that. You will love the sound. That is one thing everyone agrees on.At least never heard one say "I hate how the Dyno Max Super Turbos sound"
Ganey.
Your mail has been down all day.All has bounced back!

i concur. the superturbo sound is great. flowmasters are neat, but to me, sound trucklike or even (gulp) drone like 5.0
Sorry ,don't know the part number but from Jegs they come with proper pipe bend /lenght heading back towards the differential.Really are worth the money.
Bet Ganey can fix you up with the Number. But think calling Jegs will work also.If they ship you the wrong one,it's their fault.
That motor is going to sound great with your cam! You excited?
Whoooaa! Just seen you have Merlin Rectangular heads! With those gears that buddy is gonna hit pretty good!
Go with Dynomax, their straight through design one, not the turbos. Actually flow more that Flowmasters and lot less drone. I know it all a matter of taste, IMHO Flowmasters are just "loud" noise not "good" noise.
