I agree with both the above posts... its expensive and hard with a stock vette hood. Procharger has some nice Vette kits and they are very low profile... they're centrifugal superchargers which is basically a belt driven turbo. Most of them are internally lubricated and dont need to be intercooled if you dont use a ton of boost. Higher boost would mean a blow off valve and possibly an intercooler. A lot of research and possibly upgrading the internals in the engine is a good idea. Oh forgot to mention you could go with the exhaust mounted turbos... ones that are in the rear of the car going off the exhaust pipe but im not too sure how those set up and work. Good luck
What are your goals? What fuel delivery do you intend to use? What motor do you plan on using? Compression ratio? Single or twin?
A low compression L48 would actually be a good candidate for an el cheapo blow through setup, but the power pontential is pretty low due to the weak bottom end.
The most important question, what is your budget? As far as bolt on kits, which is misleading as no turbo kit is truely bolt on; there is Gale Banks and I think maybe Tom Nelson might have one. If you are handy with a welder and like fabrication there are plenty of books that can guide you through a custom turbo build.
i was looking to boost it 10 psi that would give me about 500hp the motor is a good start it is an L-82 steel crank forged pistons 202 heads all stock parts, I want to run fuel injection not sure who's i think taking the stock fan and shroud off would give me some room i would like to use 2 small turbos but one bigger unit would take less work.more turbo lag. i would do all the work i'm looking fore pics of older vettes with turbos thanks for the input
I don't think that there are any "kits" for C3s - there are several kits for C5/C6s that place the turbos in the rear. The "plumbing" is made for the LS motors and the C5/C6 body/chassis/suspension configurations.
Turbo (single and twins) set-ups will fit under the hood of a C3 - takes money, creativity and a lot of "plumbing" know-how/skill (not to mention all the other stuff like EFI, fuel delivery, electronics, temperature control, intercooler, etc.). I have seen single turbos mounted in front of the motor (cross-over plumbing is fun) and twins mounted in front and tucked into the recesses behind the front wheels. (obviously a lot of removed, relocated, revised parts).
Spend some time searching You Tube and Google images (or similar) and you will see some of the things that have been done out there.
Gale Banks, Turbo Engineering and a few Others have sold Kits for C3's for the last 25 Years. There were a few Universal Kits for the SBC that might turn up on e-bay from Time to time. I'd recomend a modern Fuel Injection system as a must no mater what set up you use. A modern belt driven Blower is much simpler and thats why they have taken over the market, however not quite as effective. If your interested in the Banks system I can walk you threw it. Its not for the faint of heart.
