The cables going from the shifter console levers to the vent doors are frozen up. The doors move fine with a screw driver through the louvers and the levers move back and forth fine too. The problem is the cables just horseshoe were there is about 3"or 4" of exposed cable in front of the lever were it screws on to the underside of the fiberoptic light plate.
Anybody been down this road ?
(finally had the entire dash together too ! )
I can sell you cables but you can probably find them locally! I love shooting my own foot!
The cable you seek is just a standard Bowden cable. The more popular use is in lawn mowers and roto-tillers throttle cable. They are looped on each end and also have a bracket for installation.
Hi John,
I think the length of the cables is pretty critical both to get the vents to work and to make the curve/bend they need to under the dash.
I'd spring for Wilcox's cables.

Alan
We used to make these here and you are correct! The most important thing is making sure the bracket is in the right place if doing them from scratch. GM used to sell a kit for making these and it would come with the cable, the outer housing, the tool for turning the pig tails and a huge bag of the brackets.
The tool was the neat thing, you could spin the loops in there so fast and it worked perfect. When GM disco'ed the kit we would go to the local lawmower shop and buy it in bulk from them. . . . Then the pigtail tool broke after about 20 years of using it.
Hi W,
I was wondering about the 'pig tail', too, since it really needs to be just the right size to fit the connection to the vent door.
Thanks for the info!

Alan
