There are half shafts and ujoints that can handle the power but your aluminum carrier is going to be trouble. The aluminum ones have been known to self destruct under some power. You can retrofit and iron unit, 79 and earlier years to the bat wing and these are stronger.

The 1350 u joint is avalable for Your rear end using all GM or Reproduction Parts. If Your Car came with a 4 Speed it would of had them OEM. Its a bit Confusing the 80-81 came with the 1350 u -Joint only with a 4 speed and all 82s came with them even thow a 4 speed wasn't avalable in 82. You will need to change the Yokes the Rear end, the 1/2 shafts, and the Spindle Flanges. I just did this to my 80. You can wait for them to come on e-bay or buy them in Reproduction from Van Steel. e-bay is about 1/2 Price and 1/2 of the parts are junk. Van Steel also offers Billet Caps for the U-Joints.

So, what is the horsepower limit for the 75-79 rear diff? Can it handle the ZZ502 with sticky street legal tires?
