Muncie vs Super T10
I have a ST10 I want to rebuild but can't find a DVD on the process. They have a Muncie DVD and I was wondering if the technique in rebuilding it similar?
Thanks,
Danny
The ST-10 isn't too bad, the trick is the input shaft. There is a woodruff key in the end of the counter shaft so it drives out the rear. If you get Pauls book on trannies it will go over them all.
I made a angle iron stand to mount the trans in to rebuild both types. Once you get to the point of removing the main shaft and gears you have to drive out the counter gear shaft, then let the gear slip down to allow the main shaft to be removed. Then you can remove the counter gear and the input with bearing. Then remove the bearing in a press.
Be 100% sure you're ready to install the new bearing at the time or you will end up buying another $45 bearing. I made that mistake once and once I had the new bearing on it was wrecked removing it. I have it on my desk as a reminder!!
Otherwise the setup is the same. Use some of that green tranny grease to hold the needles of the counter gear in place, works great. I found it at a local NAPA but you can probably find it online as well.
