I paid about $30 apiece for my Dynomax Super Turbos, 2 1/2" offset inlet and outlet, from local auto parts store 1 1/2 years ago, but they did not come with tips or elbows, just the mufflers. Sound great on 2 1/2" true dual exhaust with no cat. convertor.

Biker,
I've fitted Monza mufflers to my '81 (no box, just a 2 1/2" pipe coming in which splits into 2 going out - chromed :) ). They are straight through with absorbtion type baffling (as used by the old Brit bikes). They sound brilliant but aren't as loud as I'd thought they'd be. My neighbours just shook their heads & walked off when they heard them (but they're used to our bikes - sort of tamed neighbours, really!). With cats in your system they'd probably be even quieter. I love 'em - 4 chrome tailpipes, a quiet (ish) idle & cruise & armaggedon when you nail it :). Ecklers have them in their catalogue as KBD Targa mufflers. Certainly worth a look - and they're the cheapest mufflers that I've seen, so if you don't like them you won't have wasted your life savings!
Oh yeah, performance felt better after fitting them. Think mine came from Mid America.

John's 81,
Where did you find Dynomax Super Turbos for $30? I just order a pair from Summit Racing for $90 each.

Local auto parts store called "Jockos", not sure if they are regional or not. These are the aluminized Dynomax Super Turbos, not some off brand, just can't remember the exact part number right now, something like 71315, which I'm sure is not correct, but believe the number started with a '7'. Again, would point out that this was for mufflers only, no tips, no elbows for tail pipe to muffler connection, which I had made at local muffler shop for $20, using old elbows as a template for the new ones.

Thanks to all for the input.

I installed a pair of DynoMax Super Turbos and replaced my catalytic with a straight pipe. Surprisingly, this combination is barely any louder than stock! While I'm disappointed with the sound, I believe I'll appreciate the performance gain. Ony problem is the roads are filled with snow and salt, so I can't drive my car.

You should definitely notice a performance gain. I replaced the stock mufflers on mine with Dynomax Super Turbos 2 years ago and noticed the difference right away (especially in the lower RPM range). They claim a 20HP boost over stock, so if you got rid of the cat, you'll certainly like the performance.

From Dynomax themselves:

>The difference in the mufflers #17734 and 17757 are as follows. The # 17757
>will include the inlet pipe, spout, (2) clamps. Part #17734 is the muffler
>only.

Get #17734 - I got them off an Ebay seller - $65 for the pair.

Got the elbow's from a muffler shop - I drew a tracing of the current ones
and had them bend the new (2.5") ones to the shape.

I also run a highflow cat. converter and same Monza mufflers as UKPaul on my '81
You'll find them in Mid America catalog.
Love em :)

Hi Biker,
I'm not surprised that they aren't much louder than stock. When I fitted my Monzas I was half expecting to blow my windows out with the noise, but was really surprised at how "quiet" they were (considering that you can see right through them!).
I noticed a big seat of the pants performance improvement & I didn't have a Cat to start with. Trouble is, you'll get used to the power & then want even MORE :D
Stay patient & wait for all that salt to get washed off the roads before trying them out - damn stuff eats vehicles :mad :cuss :cry
