door lock key number
Is their a key number on the door lock somewhere? When we bought the 81 the guy did not remember where he had them, quote was "I never locked the doors so why carry the key". I don't lock the doors at all now but maybe I would like to in the future. If no numbers present should I just buy matching new locks? Allan

Yes, stamped in the side of each factory lock case is what we called a key code. Any lock smith should be able to decode this for you and cut a matching key. If they can not, I think I still have the old code books. I'll have to check but I may be able to look it up for you. Maybe there is a code bank online too! 
I would just pull the lock cylinder out and have a key cut if it were me.

Long time back I lost the only key for my Toyota, and a lock-smith was able to "file" cut a new blank key by his bare hands right on my drive way! .. he was inserting the blank key in the door's cylinder and then cutting through a so hardly to notice marks! .. That was really amazing!

I was lucky enough to inherit the original metal stamped key ring "circle" with the code on it...I keep that in a safe place.....Did anyone else get that with their original car purchase around the '79 years ?
