Default front coil springs, which way?

i am in the process of installing new up/low ball joints, in/out ti rods, up/low control arm bushings, shocks, and pitman arm on my project 82 from hell !!!!
when i put the drivers side coil spring back in i couldn't remember which way it went. i put it in with the coils close together at the top.
and today when i did the pass side i saw it was the other way, close coils at the bottom. will it matter that i put the driver side wrong. should i pull it back out and put the close coils on the bottom? i have the pass side ball joints and bushings done (the bottoms are a sob to change!!!!!) and tomorrow the pass side control arms and spring go back in.

Hi GS,
The note on the spring, shock, and control-arm page in the AIM indicates the close coils should be at the top.
You also need to be careful that the spring is properly rotated so it seats in the proper place in the spring tower. The end of the spring should be from 1/4" to 1/2" from the stop.
Regards,
Alan

You need to check the AIM for your applicable year.

Early C3s had close coils at the top, but later years (1982) were different. They had a tape sticker located on the assembly which was placed toward the lower position when installed. The top of the coil looked like it had an angled cut coil, as opposed to a straight cut.
