Default steering column parts help

Hi all, so I havent posted much as I have figured out how to use the search features and do research without bothering the group, but this one has got me stumped.
I have had to tear my '76 T&T steering column down using Jim Sheas papers, everything has gone well so far and I found out that my original problem was a broken ignition switch rack.
The current problem I have is with the bearing housing pivot pin, according to Jim's papers it should be .4000 to .4005, mine mics just under .4000 and I can slip it into it's home by hand with no problem. This is apparently not acceptable.

Anyone know where I can locate replacement pins, I have looked at zip, ecklers, corvette central and any other place I can think of, short of the junk yard.

thank you,
Andy
PS thank you Mr Shea for putting together your information.

I ordered the same borla exhaust too, and love the way it sounds it also looks very nice. I have people asking me all the time what kind of exhaust it is because it sounds so good. I got mine from borla parts here, borla 11761 and was pleased with the price a delivery time. You should also check craigslist sometimes you can find a used set.

You might try just rotating the pins around. If they show wear in one area just rotating them might reduce the clearance. I see that in order to purchase the pivot pins from Dr. Rebuild you will need to purchase upper bearings as well.

I really can't add any more comments than what is already in D&R paper #3.
----------------
The large diameter on the pin should be an interference fit to the housing. It should be impossible for you to insert it into the housing by hand. You will have to tap it with a hammer or press it in place with a c-clamp or other devise. Once a pin is pressed in place in the housing, it should be secure with absolutely no looseness.

You should be able insert the smaller diameter of the pivot pin into the support hole. Now, thread an 8-32 screw all the way into the tapped hole in the pivot pin. Secure it in place with a jam nut. Now, try and wiggle the screw, you should not feel any motion between the pivot pin and the support. If one or both holes in the support are badly out of round or tapered, it is probably best to replace the support.

If there is any detectable play at the pivot pin to support or at the pivot pin to housing interface, you will feel play in the steering column head in the side to side direction.
-----------------------

Since the pins are hardened, I am afraid that the problem is in the support or the bearing housing. Try the above tests to try and determine where your clearance(s) are.

Ok thanks all, will check out docrebuild. I did try rotating and switching sides with the pins. Hope I don't have to get a new housing assembly, I have only seen 77-82 listed.
